Survey
topic: IT software product usage
Target audience:
software resellers in Western Europe, Latin American
and the Far East (11 languages in total)
Length of survey:
15 minutes
Turnaround time:
5 working days from receipt of Excel scripted questionnaire
to delivery of all translations
Challenges: retaining
html coding, maintaining dialogue with translators.
When a survey is conducted over a large number of countries,
it is vital that all information be shared between the
translators. For this project, we were careful to communicate
the study goals to translators, and keep them abreast
of issues encountered by other translators which may
assist them in the translation process. ***
Survey topic:
Olympic
Games perception and awareness
Target audience:
members of the public across
11 countries spanning Western Europe, North America,
Latin America and the Far East
Length of survey:
4 waves, 10-15 minutes per wave,
received over the course of 2 weeks
Turnaround time: each wave completed within 5 working
days from receipt of ConfirmIT links to completion of
translations
Challenges: working
in ConfirmIT, tight timings and maintaining quality
and terminology consistency between waves. ConfirmIT
presents a number of challenges for translators and
can slow the translation process down considerably.
Our job is to ensure that these issues do not affect
the quality and timings of the translation. We achieve
this by providing comprehensive guidelines for working
in ConfirmIT and support when issues are encountered.
We also request Word extractions of the translations
from ConfirmIT from the client to assist in the translation
checking process. On this occasion, we conducted additional
spot checks of the translations to monitor the quality
of our translators' work. These aspects were built into
the project timings so the survey was able to be launched
on time. ***
Survey topic:
chronic
kidney disease survey, including product profile
Target audience:
nephrologists in France, Germany,
Spain and Italy
Length of survey:
20 minutes
Turnaround time:
4 working days from receipt
of Word files to delivery of completed translations
Challenges: technical
terminology and timings. The particularly technical
nature of this text meant that we had to be particularly
careful when selecting translators. For this type of
project, we only work with experienced medical translators
who have extensive experience of translating and researching
new medical techniques and products. This must be balanced
with the ability to write clearly and concisely in their
own language to ensure the aims of the survey are not
compromised by technical jargon. The availability of
such qualified translators is obviously restricted so
advance warning of the project was invaluable in ensuring
the timelines could be met. ***
